Thursday Mindfulness Series

Practice mindfulness in community with this weekly teacher-led group. Guided techniques to support mindfulness will be offered and there will be an opportunity for group discussion. Feel free to arrive from 9:45 for an unguided period of seated mindfulness meditation prior to class.

Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) course

The mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) course is designed to help participants create and sustain their own mindfulness practice. It is a well-researched course which is quite intensive in nature: participants are asked to commit to attending the Orientation, then a weekly class, plus 45-60 minutes of mindfulness practice six days a week, for eight weeks. An ‘all day’ retreat is a key part of the course and will take place in between classes 6 and 7.

The course provides a supportive foundation of formal mindfulness techniques and less formal practices, in a small group setting. Through the course participants deepen their awareness of the relationship between mind and body, and grow their inner resources for coping and healing, learning how to take better care of themselves. 

MBSR was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at University of Massachusetts Medical School and is offered to complement rather than replace traditional medical and psychological treatments - read more about MBSR here.

What's happening now? (Mindfulness for kids)

Join this group of 6-12 year olds to engage the senses and notice what's happening! Through art, play, movement and food we will explore how opportunities for mindfulness show up in day-to-day life. The 2 hour class, part of the On the Hill Gallery Third Sundays series, will be co-led by Melissa McGill, yoga, meditation and preschool teacher; and Laura Stephens, lead mindfulness teacher for A Mindful Mess LLC.

Fall into Mindfulness (Monday evenings)

Support your best intentions and deepen your understanding of mindfulness with this four-week course starting Monday, November 19. Content is drawn from the full Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course and includes guidance in key mindfulness meditations with the support of a small dedicated group. Based at On the Hill Gallery, a unique historic setting, participants are asked to commit to all four classes (7-8pm on four Mondays: Nov 19, Nov 26, Dec 3 and last date TBC) and will have a short mindfulness practice to complete between classes.

[Free workshop] Mindfulness & Minimalism

Interest in mindfulness practices is rising, as mental health is increasingly recognised to be as important as physical health. Join this Tabb Library workshop to uncover techniques to enhance mindfulness through various practices, including minimalism.

This program is part of the Young Adults Series, designed for 15 through 25-year-olds, but all ages are welcome to gain insight into the connection between minimalism and mindfulness. Registration (no cost) via the York County website is required.
