Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) course (FREE ORIENTATION)

  • Center for Integrative Brain Health 12482 Warwick Blvd, Suite B Newport News, Virginia 23606 USA (map)

The mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) course is designed to help participants create and sustain their own mindfulness practice. It is a well-researched course which is quite intensive in nature: participants are asked to commit to attending the Orientation, then a weekly class, plus 45-60 minutes of mindfulness practice six days a week, for eight weeks. An ‘all day’ retreat is a key part of the course and will take place in between classes 6 and 7.

The course provides a supportive foundation of formal mindfulness techniques and less formal practices, in a small group setting. Through the course participants deepen their awareness of the relationship between mind and body, and grow their inner resources for coping and healing, learning how to take better care of themselves.

MBSR was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at University of Massachusetts Medical School and is offered to complement rather than replace traditional medical and psychological treatments - read more about MBSR here.

Key dates for MBSR:
Orientation 2pm Sunday, April 14
First class 2pm Sunday, April 28
’All day’ retreat (TBC) Saturday June 8
Last class Sunday, June 16
