The mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) course is designed to help participants create and sustain their own mindfulness practice. It is a well-researched course which is intensive in nature: participants are asked to commit to attending the Orientation, then a weekly class, plus 45-60 minutes of mindfulness practice six days a week, for eight weeks. An ‘all day’ retreat is a key part of the course and will take place in late February.
The course provides a supportive foundation of formal mindfulness techniques and less formal practices, in a small group setting. Through the course participants deepen their awareness of the relationship between mind and body, and grow their inner resources for coping and healing, learning how to take better care of themselves.
MBSR was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at University of Massachusetts Medical School and is offered to complement rather than replace traditional medical and psychological treatments - read more about MBSR here.
